During the last few years, The Nutrition Society of Bangladesh (NSB) has been working with the previous executive council. The Government of Bangladesh has put nutrition in a scaling up program for 5 years, called the National Nutrition Services (NNS) (2011-2016). NSB has assisted to give technical support & supervision of the activity from central to the grassroot level.

The successive three government programs of Nutrition in the country have made significant change with the active role of the members of the Nutrition Society of Bangladesh. The National Nutrition Service (NNS) is being implemented all over the country with mainstreaming nutrition through the health system of Bangladesh. Compared to 2011 BDHS data, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding has improved to 66% in urban area (2014). Recent survey has reported improvement of nutritional status in all age groups than those of 2011 BDHS data. The high level of low birth weight infants (36%) remains a major challenge. Bangladesh has been given MDG UN Awards, the South-South Award to the Honourable Prime Minister on the progress made. It has also received recognition for high performance in Vaccination from GAVI. Government of Bangladesh has enacted the Breast-milk substitutes (BMS) Act 2013 as the international code of Breast milk substitutes. NSB members participated actively to develop the BMS Act monitoring committee in all districts civil surgeon offices in Bangladesh. The Nutrition society of Bangladesh has participated with BBF to revitalize 500 Baby friendly Hospitals (BFHI) in Bangladesh. NSB scientist in collaboration with Bangladesh Breast Feeding Foundation and FAO has developed complementary feeding Recipe Book and manual with 35 dietary formulations. The book was launched by the Honourable Prime Minister during World Breastfeeding Week 2014. This has also been included in the IBFAN Asia book for 23 countries.

The NSB members contributed to the development of Dietary Guidelines, Food Safety Law and Policy and the National Nutrition Policy in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh National Nutrition Council is being revitalized by active role NSB members and with the support from MOHFW. NSB member of INFS has developed and updated new food composition table of Bangladesh and Database of Food composition in 2013 as a new contribution using international laboratory standards and procedures.

The Honourable Prime Minister has sanctioned 447 posts of Nutritionists in different level hospitals. The Nutrition Society of Bangladesh has conducted research through fellowship program of university students in many institutions.

Many of NSB members are running the programs of nutrition in different UN agencies. Previous Secretary General of NSB from Bangladesh has been elected member of IUNS Council during 2013-2017. Bangladesh NSB thanked for the support of the Asian countries.
